Your magical autumn getaway in the Dolomites

An ideal season to hike and cycle to your heart’s content in a UNESCO World Heritage Site

You can still hike in autumn – indeed, we’d go as far as saying it’s the ideal season to do so. You can enjoy cooler temperatures, and marvel at the breathtaking hues of gold and crimson washing over the forests set against the backdrop of clear, blue skies. And the magic doesn’t stop here: the majestic Dolomites will take your breath away, some of their summits already covered in a fine dusting of fresh snow.

The outdoor season is not over yet

Many of the Dolomiti Supersummer lifts will still be open during autumn. Simply head to a valley station and hop in one of the cable cars to be whisked up into the mountains, from where you can start your excursion. And after a long day’s hiking, you can return to the valley on one of the lifts. Make the most of the 10,000 km of signposted hiking paths in the Dolomites. Even adrenaline junkies will find something up here, with 450 km MTB trails and bike parks providing plenty of fun.

While it may seem as though there’s a lot going on, don’t worry: between September and November, the whole area is as peaceful as can be. Everyone seems to relax and take a deep breath – including nature. As soon as the early morning mist disperses, you’ll be rewarded by a stunning, clear view of the mountains, the peaks in the horizon looking even sharper despite the distance thanks to the crisp mountain air. The perfect place where to recharge your batteries. And don’t forget to make the most of autumn by treating yourself to mouth-watering, seasonal meals in one of the many cosy mountain huts.
