Arabba
Surrounded by stunning Dolomites peaks at the foot of the Sella massif, at an altitude of 1,602 metres, you’ll find Arabba. It’s the perfect destination, nestled in a Ladin valley, with loads of sport and authentic culture on offer. In this little village people still follow and honour old customs and traditions.
Pieve di Livinallongo
These clusters of houses dotted around the area are known as Fodóm to Ladin speakers and Buchenstein to German speakers. It’s more a collection of tiny settlements over a wide area than a proper town. The main settlements are Pieve, in the high valley, and Arabba, the famous summer and winter holiday destination, located lower in the valley. The municipality is in the upper Cordevole valley between the Dolomites’ passes of Pordoi, Campolongo and Falzarego, on the border between the provinces of Belluno, Trentino, and South Tyrol.
Pordoi Pass
This pass is at an altitude of 2,239 metres between the Sella Group in the north and the Marmolada Group in the south, and connects Arabba with Canazei. This makes the Pordoi part of the Großen Dolomitenstraße, the Great Dolomites Road, which links the valleys. In the summer it’s the perfect place to set off on any number of hikes in the Sella Group and the Marmolada area, or to take part in the Sellaronda MTB Tour.
Campolongo Pass
This pass is at an altitude of 1,875 metres and connects Arabba and Val Badia. From here you can set off on all sorts of hiking and mountain excursions, or even set off on the legendary Sellaronda MTB Tour.
Sottoguda
In this charming village at the foot of the Marmolada it feels as though time has stopped. Sottoguda is a traditional Dolomites’ village with traditional Tabièi – wooden barns – living local craftsmanship, and the Faièr, one of the highest-altitude beech forests in Europe. It was named one of Italy’s most beautiful villages in 2016.
Malga Ciapela
For a hiking holiday around the Marmolada, look no further than Malga Ciapela. Malga Ciapela, at an altitude of 1,450 metres, is where the famous Marmolada cable cars begin their ascent to Punta Rocca, boasting 3,265 metres. Jump out at the Serauta station on the way and pay a visit to the Marmolada Great War Museum.
Rocca Pietore
This little town at the foot of the Marmolada is an oasis of calm and tranquillity bringing together 25 tiny settlements. You can find any type of accommodation here. The Marmolada hiking area and Serrai di Sottoguda nature reserve are the best well-known attractions. You can do any kind of sport you can think of here while enjoying endless, stunning views.
Laste
Its enviable panoramic views of the Civetta, Pelmo, Col di Lana and Tofane make the village of Laste a true gem. In addition to the typical landscape with larch forests and well-tended meadows, the mysterious monoliths of Ronch are also a unique landmark you can’t miss.
