New Valcigolera Gondola

The San Martino di Castrozza - Passo Rolle ski area is ready to impress you in the 2024/25 season with a new, modern, and fast ten-person gondola lift.

The new Valcigolera gondola, produced by Leitner, will have a capacity of up to 1500 passengers per hour. It will allow skiers to move faster between the Ces and the Tognola area, to reach the highest point of the ski area, the Cima Tognola peak (2383m), quickly and to avoid the Cristiania red slope if they don’t feel like facing it and they prefer to come back to the Malga Valcigolera by lift.

It will take just 3.30 minutes (now it takes more than 10) to go from the Malga Valcigolera to the Cima Tognola peak (465m difference in altitude). This modern lift grants a reduced energy use and it is powered by renewable energy, like all the lifts working in the ski area San Martino di Castrozza-Passo Rolle.

The lift connection between Tognola and Ces has been recently renovated also in the Tognola side, where two new chairlifts (Cigolera and Cima Tognola) have been inaugurated in the last years. That’s why skiing down the 45 km of slopes of San Martino di Castrozza moving from one area to the other will be more fun than ever!

The works for the construction of a gondola lift connecting San Martino to the Rolle Pass are underway. The main contractor is the Leitner firm, working side by side with Collini Spa, Misconel Srl and Grisenti Srl. With the contract signature the authorisation phase for the works is coming to an end.

The infrastructure consists of a 1650 meters long gondola lift with 5 stations over 500 meters altitude difference which is covered by the 10 seats-passenger cabins in 17 minutes (corresponding to a cruise speed of 6 m/s and a wind resistance of up until 75 km/h) and can transport up to 1500 passengers per hour. The whole line is built to transport up to 1800 passengers per hour.

In connection with the lift, a new panoramic ski trail from Malga Fosse to Prà delle Nasse is under construction. As a consequence, part of the main road SS50 will be rebuilt, in order to ensure a better viability especially during the winter months. The overall cost of the whole infrastructure will almost reach 55 million euros.

The works are expected to end in winter 2026/2027.
